London Fly Over

London as seen from the window of a KLM plane

We were flying out of the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, on our way to the Caribbean Netherlands Antilles territory of St. Maarten. I learned from basic geography that to get to the Caribbean Sea from the Netherlands, you will have to fly over the North Sea and pass over Great Britain. I figured, if I could not get a glimpse of London, I could at least see the English countryside from the air.

After some time over the sea, I finally got a glimpse of the island of Great Britain, which gave me the signal to take my camera out. I set the dial to the “aerial” scene preset. I was not disappointed as after several minutes, the scene above displayed itself on my airplane window. And so, I took this aerial snapshot of London.

Iloilo River Beautiful

The beautiful Iloilo River, seen here looking West towards Oton, separates Iloilo City's districts of Molo and Mandurriao

The beautiful Iloilo River, seen here looking West towards Oton, separates Iloilo City’s districts of Molo on the left and Mandurriao on the right. The north bank along the Mandurriao side will be the site of the upcoming Iloilo River Esplanade, designed by famous architect Paulo Alcazaren, who is also the designer of The Esplanade, Singapore.

Since this shot was published in forums and other web pages, it has been recreated countless of times by numerous others. Neil’s Snapshots feels good to be one of the first to find this angle of the beautiful Iloilo River.

The vibrant colors of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol and other buildings in downtown Iloilo City dominate the city’s skyline, as seen from the Iloilo River. In line with the implementation of the Iloilo River Development Initiative, all boats docking along this area of the Iloilo River Wharf are advised to dock downstream – near the Iloilo River’s mouth – or at the Iloilo Fishing Port at the Iloilo Strait.

The Sun Rises in Libya

The spring sun is about to rise over the Western Libyan town of Sorman, along the Mediterranean Sea

The spring sun paints the sky a bright red-orange, as it was about to rise at around half past six, one morning of April 2010, over the Western Libyan town of Sorman along the Mediterranean Sea. The old town of Sorman is the site of one of many new townships planned to be built for the Libyan people.
